Maine Grains and Grapes Festival

Saturday, June 21, 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm
Androscoggin Bank Colisee, 190 Birch St., Lewiston
>>This festival celebrates Maine’s homegrown breweries and wineries with samples of wine, beer and food with two tasting sessions lasting three and half hours each. Participating breweries include Gritty McDuff’s, Shipyard, Sea Dog, Stone Coast, D.L. Geary, Casco Bay, Atlantic, Oak Pond, Sebago, Belfast and Sunday River. Wine comes from Tanguay and Son, Blacksmith’s, Sweetgrass Farm, Shalom Orchard, Savage Oakes Vineyard and Fiddler’s. Gritty’s Brew Pub, Heidi’s Brooklyn Style Deli, Za’s Pizza and South of the Border provide food samples at the event.

Bayside World Market & Fair

>>This festival celebrates the diverse cultures of downtown Portland with world food, music, dance, immigrant journey stories, children’s activities and a traditional market featuring flea market items, baked goods, art, jewelry, furniture, Tupperware and crafts. The festival’s food will be sold by La Bodega Latina, Cream & Sugar, Homegrown Herb and Tea, Sarah Espicho Sudanese, Nakornping Thai Restaurant, Camellaq Field’s Caribbean Food, Hamdi Restaurant, Huong Thu Vietnamese, Mitheap Asian Market, Ari’s East End Market, Passage to India, Cambodian Invalid Organization, Watt Samaki Buddhist Temple, Fasulo’s Pizzeria and the New American Sustainable Agriculture Project.

Southern Maine Pride Festival

Saturday, June 21, 1-5 pm
Deering Oaks Park, Portland
>> This festival celebrates the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community with a family event featuring music, piano bar sing-a-longs, bellydancing, drag performers and speakers. Food vendors include Vinny’s Concessions, Spartan Grill, Harbormasters and Island Cow Ice Cream. The annual Pride Parade, which starts at noon in Monument Square, ends at the park and kicks off the festival.

4th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival

Saturday, June 21, 11 am-4 pm
Abromson Community Education Center, USM, 88 Bedford St., Portland
>> This festival celebrates plant-based cuisine with vegan food samples, exhibitors, displays and vegan product samples. Macrobiotic author Jessica Porter talks at noon and Paul Shapiro from the Humane Society of the United States speaks at 2:30 pm. Free food samples will be offered by the PepperClub Restaurant, Betty Lou’s, Primal Spirit Foods, Larabar, Crispy Cat Candy Bars, Galaxy Foods, Road’s End Cheese, Whole Foods Market, Maine Coast Sea Vegetables, Boathouse Farms and Sequel Naturals. Exhibitors include Green Elephant Vegetarian Bistro, Bouchard Family Farm, Cafe Miranda, Kzeloumsen Permaculture Gardens and Delicious TV.

Taste of the Nation Wine Dinner
Sunday, June 22, 3-8 pm
Fort Lyons, Cow Island, Casco Bay
>> This festival highlights the talents of local chefs and raises money for Share Our Strength’s efforts to eliminate childhood hunger in Greater Portland. Enjoy apps prepared by Sam Hayward of Fore Street, Joe Boudreau of Grille Room and Lawrence Klang of Camden Harbor Inn. The meal begins with Steve Corry of Five Fifty-Five’s chilled cucumber soup, then Rob Evans of Hugo’s organic Maine asparagus spears, followed by Larry Matthews of Back Bay Grill’s olive oil poached hybrid striped bass and finishes with Lee Skawinski of Cinque Terre’s roast loin of lamb. Jeff Landry of Eve’s at the Garden and Bryan Dam of The Edge in Camden prepare desserts. Drinks include cocktails made with Diageo Reserve Portfolio spirits and wines from Wente Vineyards.
