Sometimes we put these projects off because it may be too overwhelming to decide on new colors or a different style than what we already have. So, in order to give you a jump start — I’ll let you in on a few secrets to help you out.
Gather the “goods” — Here is a chance to go through your home and collect some of your most treasured things together. Now that you have these cherished possessions in one spot, take a good look at them and try to come up with a theme according to what those things are telling you. Is there a specific color combination that keeps coming up? Do you have family photos that are not quite in the frames you care for, or in frames at all? Use these ideas to start developing your design choices.
Use your instincts — New color on walls is a spot where I know people get the most hung up. They mull over a few colors, over and over again, only to pick something that just doesn’t quite fill the bill. Why, you ask? Well, simply put, they thought about it too long. Color is feeling, it evokes emotion. Use what makes you feel comfortable, and always know that paint dries a little darker on the walls than what you see in the can.
Surprise solutions — Do you have a friend who you could allow to be honest with you? Not about personal design, but more about practical solutions to some tired ways you have been going about doing some things in your home. Maybe she or he can help you figure out a better way to store your belongings or display your artwork. In return, you could do a once over in their home as well — sometimes it’s all about a fresh perspective!
I hope these ideas help you enjoy this beautiful spring we are having!
