Exhibitors at this year’s event include Aston Martin, Cutco, Chris Craft, Ferretti, Hinckley and many more. The yacht showcase is a unique event thanks to its rarified setting at The Delamar Greenwich Harbor (203-661-9800) and the pier. Boasting more than 600 feet of dock space, this elegant retreat is a lavish backdrop for the showcase.
A Small Luxury Hotel of the World, The Delamar is an enchanting getaway. It is convenient lodging for those planning to spend a lot of time at the showcase.
Enjoy sumptuously appointed rooms, relaxing spa services and provencal dining at L’Escale Restaurant & Bar ($10-$34). Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, L’Escale (French for “stopover”) features Mediterranean flavors, with a focus on seafood for the adventurous palate.
Or try the Homestead Inn (203-869-7500), a Relais & Chateaux property with 19 rooms decorated with a European flair.
Greenwich’s 600 shops and restaurants, including the fine establishments of Greenwich Avenue (the Rodeo Drive of the Eastern Seaboard), will keep you and your credit card well occupied. Greenwich also offers many historical and cultural sites of interest.
Bruce Museum is an 87-year-old institution housing more than 15,000 objects in its permanent collection, ranging from paintings and sculpture to specimens of natural history and anthropological artifacts.
Nestled in a lovely park at the end of Greenwich Avenue, Bruce Museum presents 14 changing exhibits a year in addition to its permanent exhibits. The museum also holds special lectures, family days, concerts and the Outdoor Crafts Festival in May.
The signature event of the Greenwich Arts Council (www.greenwicharts.org), Art to the Avenue, is held in May and transforms Greenwich Avenue into a “strolling gallery.”
Another popular event is the POPS Concert in June. The Bendheim Gallery at the Arts Council presents several exhibitions throughout the year.
The dining selection in Greenwich is mind-boggling. Polpo Restaurant ($13-$44) offers a comprehensive Italian dining experience. Casual American dining can be found at Thataway Café ($6.50-$24.95). Enjoy lunch or dinner, and on Thursday nights be serenaded at Thataway’s Songwriter’s Den, a new venue for local musicians.
