The trail run is a five-miler featuring hills and stream crossings at the Bear Notch Ski Touring Center in Bartlett.
If you’re looking for recreation while in Jackson, you don’t have to look far. It’s the home of both Black Mountain and Wildcat Mountain, as well as the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. The way this winter has gone, don’t be surprised to see good snow conditions lasting through April.
April through June 20 is considered Bud to Blossom time in Jackson and you can visit rushing waterfalls, go hiking, biking or whitewater rafting, while staying at some great resorts. If you bring the kids, visit Nestlenook Farm, a 65-acre picturesque Victorian estate where you can feed the reindeer year-round. It also has seven units so visitors can stay on the grounds (603-383-9443).
If the kids stay home, Eagle Mountain House and Golf Club offers a “Food Glorious Food” package with rest, relaxation and romance that includes dinner, breakfast and champagne brunch (800-966-5779). And The Wentworth Inn offers fine dining with Chef Brian Gazda in an elegant, country setting (800-637-0013).
Jackson’s a town that is proud to have preserved its heritage and scenic beauty, but updated itself enough to bring visitors to its shopping and attractions. It was named among the 10 Top Romantic Ski Towns by “Ski America” for its cozy B&B’s, fine dining options like the Wentworth and The Inn at Thorn Hill and the legacy of the “kissing bridge.” The Jackson Covered Bridge was called that because in years gone by it was where men courting their dates would go to steal a kiss.
