The University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s “North Country Garden Calendar” is always a popular item for holiday gift giving and the 2008 version’s ready. Developed by Cooperative Extension professors Lois Berg Stack and Leonard Perry of UMaine and UVM, this year’s calendar features 12 of the authors’ favorite plants.

Each month features gardening reminders timed for northern New England. “We remind people when and how to start seeds, prune landscape trees and shrubs, manage weeds, make compost and much more,” says Perry. “We’ve produced garden calendars for more than 10 years, and I often refer to them myself to remember gardening tasks.”

Calendars can be purchased for $7.50 by calling 800-870-7270 or visiting www.extension.umaine.edu.
