Master bedrooms are very important to people. I have found that the master bedroom is quite the “catch” for a home buyer. All too often though, I have watched these very same people who purchased a home with wonderful intentions on making the master bedroom just right — get lost!

Design dreams of yesterday were replaced by clutter and old exercise equipment. This is no place for romance. This is no place for reflection over a nice warm cup of coffee and morning paper in bed. What to do?

Even with a very tight budget, you can make some changes that will turn your cluttered and unromantic mess into an enchanting bedroom fit for a king or queen. First, take a weekend and just clean out. Give away anything you have not used in six months.

Next, find a good flea market or second hand furniture store and buy dressers or shelves, whatever you may need. Then, make a fun project — stain, faux paint, stencil or use different paint brushes to achieve textured looks. Have fun with it.

Now it’s time to rethink your furniture arrangement. In the pictures here, the difference between where the bed was and where it is now is remarkable. Then, with some very inexpensive sheer window scarves, bedding and pillows all purchased for less than $100, you have a new, romantic, inviting master bedroom — this for a weekend’s work and very little investment.
