To move furniture into my living room, I not only need to maneuver it up a narrow stairway and get it through a door (with a wall 12 inches away), but somehow figure out how to make a 180? turn to head down the tight hallway to the living room. Not much of a problem for a coffee table, but a full-sized sofa — not going to happen. As a result, I thought I’d be sitting on a futon for many years to come.

Then I learned about Endicott Home in Scarborough, where owners Ross and Christine Endicott specialize in furniture for small spaces. They hooked me up with a Douglas sofa that slipped inside as if my place was The Breakers and not the cramped, chopped up apartment that it is.

Working with Temple furniture in North Carolina, Endicott Home has created exclusive designs for sofas, loveseats and armchairs that have low backs, narrow arms and smaller proportions overall. They’re perfect for apartment dwellers and condo owners.

One of their newest design offerings is the Piper loveseat. It features a 1940s look, coupled with down cushions and a low profile, making it perfect to place in front of a big window. Prices for the loveseat start at $1,100.

The Piper was created after a special request from a customer and has since been added to the store’s regular inventory. Ross and Christine are always looking for customer feedback and are happy to price out special requests. When it comes to small spaces, they have sizable talent.
