Through June 8: "House Beautiful Now: High School Students and American Design Student Art Exhibition"
This exhibition of student art work is the culmination of a collaboration between art and geometry students from Portland High School and the Museum that explored American architecture and design. More than 30 students visited the Frank Lloyd Wright and the House Beautiful exhibition last fall, then compared Wright's designs for domestic architecture to historical precedents as seen in the Museum's McLellan House and collection of 19th-century decorative arts. Students then studied contemporary design trends and met with local architects. Art teacher Tory Tyler-Miller had students explore their own ideas about materials and design, while geometry teacher Barbara Solomon led students through an intensive study of architecture.

Through Aug 10: "Contemporary Collaborations: Artist and Master Printer"
Guest-curated by print collector Bruce Brown, this exhibition features 23 prints by 18 contemporary artists with Maine connections who have created significant prints in concert with technical specialists at professional fine art print presses. Artists in this exhibition have created prints at legendary workshops such as Tyler Graphics, Gemini G.E.L., and the Tamarind Institute as well as at smaller presses from Vinalhaven, Maine to New York and beyond. Prints by artists in the Museum's permanent collection include Lesley Dill, David Driskell, Yvonne Jacquette, and Tim Rollins. Additionally, there are numerous works on loan from collectors, presses, and the artists themselves, including Jonathan Borofsky, Richard Estes, Anna Hepler, Adriane Herman, and John Walker.

Through Aug 17: "Urban Seen"
Cities nurture and provoke creative response. The density of visual experience provided by urban life has long been a stock in trade for painters, printmakers, and photographers. This exhibition explores artistic responses to the serendipities of city life in Portland and other metropolitan environments from the mid-19th century to the present day. Drawn predominantly from the permanent collection, Urban Seen will present more than 20 paintings, prints, and photographs that document, interpret, and idealize monuments, buildings, streetscapes, and neighborhoods—visions that capture the scale of life in the American city.

June 12-Sept 7: "Georgia O'Keeffe and the Camera: The Art of Identity"
This exhibition of 60 photographs of Georgia O'Keeffe and 18 works by the artist addresses the relationship between her art and photographs made of her over the course of a long career. For the first time, the exhibition will pair paintings and photographs to establish two opposing public images of the artist. Georgia O'Keeffe and the Camera includes famous photographers such as Ansel Adams, Alfred Steiglitz, Eliot Porter, Todd Webb, and Arnold Newman. The exhibition includes examples of O'Keeffe's paintings and works on paper that mark major moments in the development of her art: the early abstract drawings, the first landscapes in New Mexico from the 1930s, and the late architectural studies of her homes at the Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu.

Aug 16-Nov 9: "American Menagerie"
From the earliest examples of American art until the present day, images of animals serve as vehicles for meaning. Native and exotic creatures alike help artists to explore issues of identity: the quality and nature of being American or foreign, human or beast, wild or civilized, innocent or worldly. These are all issues that artists grapple with in American Menagerie. Featuring 25 works drawn primarily from the Museums permanent collection, this exhibition features artists such as Dahlov Ipcar, Bernard Langlais, Will Barnet, Wendy Kindred, Scott Leighton, and Edward Hicks.

Aug 30-Nov 16: "André Kertész: On Reading"
This exhibition celebrates a series of 104 photographs made by internationally renowned photographer André Kertész (1894–1985).
