| Description: | Tour de Cure is a series of fund-raising cycling events held in 40 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Whether participants ride 10 miles or 100 miles*, they will travel a route supported from start to finish with rest stops, food to fuel the journey and fans to cheer them on! Ride through one of the most beautiful landscapes on the Eastern Coast, beginning and ending in the picturesque resort town of Bar Harbor. The challenging 100K route travels the perimeter of scenic Mount Desert Island, curling through peaceful coves dotted with traditional fishing villages and rocky beaches. You'll pass a natural seawall which rewards the 100K cyclist was a superb ocean view and cycle through Southwest Harbor. The 50K and 25K routes wander along Acadia National Park's famous Park Loop Road and provide one amazing view after another of the park's breath-taking beauty. All routes include challenging, hilly terrain. Satisfaction is guaranteed with spectacular ocean views and a hearty lunch served on the grounds of the College of the Atlantic. For the experienced rider the 100K route is the most challenging and we recommend this route for a well conditioned athlete who can complete the route in six hours or less. For the novice and casual rider, the 50K and 25K routes are the best options. All routes are supported by well-placed rest stops and SAG vehicles staffed by enthusiastic volunteers who will make this ride memorable. When you return to the College of the Atlantic, enjoy a post-ride party with music and mouth-watering food provided by Woodman's Bar & Grill. |
